Roof maintenance that keeps small problems small
A once-a-year visit costs very little next to the leak it prevents, and the best time for it is before June.
What a maintenance visit covers
- Clear leaves, pine straw and palm debris from valleys, gutters and behind chimneys
- Check and reseal flashing around vents, pipes and walls
- Secure loose shingles, ridge caps and tiles
- Look for algae, soft spots and granule loss
- Check the attic for stains or damp insulation
- Send you the photos and a short list of anything that needs a repair

Why spring is the time
Hurricane season runs from June to November, and the afternoon thunderstorms start around the same time. A roof that goes into summer with clean valleys, tight flashing and no loose pieces is far less likely to need an emergency call later. Many homeowners book a check each spring as part of their storm prep, along with the steps in our hurricane prep guide.
Those dark streaks on light shingles are usually algae. They look bad but are mostly cosmetic. Please don't pressure-wash a shingle roof: it strips the granules that protect it from the sun.
Questions about roof maintenance
How often should a roof be checked?
Once a year, and after any storm that brings strong wind or hail.
Can you remove the algae streaks?
A gentle, roof-safe cleaning treatment can lighten them. We do not pressure-wash shingles.
Is maintenance worth it on a new roof?
Yes. Most problems on new roofs come from debris, other trades walking on it, or a vent that was disturbed, and they are cheap to fix early.
