Paying for a new roof in Tampa
Payment plans on larger jobs, and a state grant program that many Hillsborough County homeowners qualify for.
Payment plans
Most homeowners do not have the full cost of a reroof sitting in savings. Payment plans are available on replacements and larger repairs, subject to approval by the lender. Ask when you book the inspection and the terms will be laid out in writing with your estimate, so you can compare them with your own bank or credit union.
My Safe Florida Home grants
Florida's My Safe Florida Home program (section 215.5586, Florida Statutes) gives matching grants toward hurricane mitigation work on homes. Roof reinforcement is one of the covered improvements, along with impact windows, shutters and garage doors.
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| Grant amount | Up to $10,000 |
| Match | The state pays $2 for every $1 the homeowner puts in; lower-income households may qualify without a match |
| Home | Site-built, owner-occupied, your homestead |
| Age | Original building permit issued before January 1, 2008 |
| Insured value | $700,000 or less |
| Inspection | An MSFH inspection completed within the last 24 months |
The Legislature has kept funding the program, with $280 million in new money in the 2025–2026 budget and more than $405 million carried into 2026–2027, but funds are limited and rules can change. Check the program's own site for current status before counting on it.
Insurance
If the roof was damaged by a covered event such as a windstorm, your homeowner's policy may pay part of the cost, less your deductible. See the claim guide. We never ask you to sign over your insurance benefits.
